In the hotly contested race to take Lois Capps’longtime 24th District congressional seat, both the Republican and Democratic candidates are claiming favorable voter response, based on polling paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the campaign of Republican Justin Fareed.

On July 14, Fareed released the results of a poll conducted by Virginia-based Republican pollster The Tarrance Group that showed him ahead of Democrat Salud Carbajal by two percentage points — essentially a dead heat once the margin of error is taken into account.

The Fareed campaign said 350 party registered and 50 decline-to-state voters were sampled between July 10 and July 12. The poll found Fareed led Carbajal 46 to 44 percent, with 10 percent of respondents undecided. Among the respondents, 41 percent reported a favorable view of Fareed, and 23 percent reported an unfavorable view.
